Who can get help from The Phoenix Centre?
The mandate of the Phoenix Centre is to counsel children and youth with their parents or other family members. The Phoenix Centre services children and youth aged 0-18 years.

 

Parents that require personal counseling services can access treatment through Adult Mental Health Services.

What age do you service?
The Phoenix Centre services children and youth aged 0-18 years.

 

Is this service voluntary?
Yes. The Phoenix Centre is a voluntary service. The consent of caretakers/parents of children under 12 years of age is required.

 

What does the Phoenix Centre consider a crisis?
A crisis is defined as a person’s evaluation of an experience as dangerous, threatening or traumatic, with an uncertainty of how to handle it. In the event of an emergency call 9-1-1. During off-hours contact the Child, Youth & Family Crisis Line for Eastern Ontario at 1-877-377-7775.

Are the services provided by The Phoenix Centre confidential?
Yes. The services provided by The Phoenix Centre are confidential. All Phoenix Centre staff adhere to the privacy policy. In the event of a disclosure of abuse, we are obligated to report to the local family and children services.

 

Do I have to wait until my child’s behaviour is really severe before I can call the Phoenix Centre?
The Phoenix Centre encourages parents to seek preventative assistance whenever they or other caregivers have concerns about the well-being of the child’s mental health.

 

How do I make an appointment for my child?

 

What is the purpose of the telephone questionnaire?
The questions covered in the telephone interview will give the program staff a general idea about the nature of the child or families’ difficulties and what may be the most appropriate service needed to meet the family’s needs. The telephone questionnaire is a requirement of the Ministry of Children and Youth Services as The Phoenix Centre is a ministry regulated service.

 

Is there a cost for the services provided by the Phoenix Centre?
No. The Phoenix Centre is funded by the provincial government so that core treatment services can be provided free of charge. The cost of Phoenix Centre services and program supplies is offset by funds raised through our signature events and charitable donations. A fee may be attached to special services.

Can my child have a psychological assessment?
• Our psychologist can provide an assessment for a child if the family is involved with a Family Therapist.
CHEO Outreach and Paediatric Telepsychiatry services are available for children requiring a psychiatrist assessment through our agency.
• Your child must have a doctor’s referral.

 

Does my family have to complete a family assessment to participate in a group?
No. Group services are additional services offered by The Phoenix Centre. Basic information regarding your child’s needs may be a requirement for certain groups.

 

I share custody with my ex-spouse. Can my child still receive service?
In the event a joint custody arrangement is in place, or no determination of custody has been established, a Joint Custody Consent Form must be signed by both caregivers for the child to receive service. The child can not receive service until the Joint Custody Consent form is signed.

 

Does the Phoenix Centre offer marriage counseling services?
No. Marriage counseling services can be accessed through Adult Mental Health Services at 1-800-991-7711.
