Mental Health Facts

Did you know?

 

  • One in five Ontarians under the age of 19 has a mental health disorder. Of theses 530,000 children, 300,000 have more that one disorder.

 

  • Serious behaviour and emotional problems include: bullying, violence, firesetting, depression, suicide attempts, self-harm, disruptive behavior, anxiety, post-traumatic stress( e.g. related to violence or abuse), obsessive-compulsive, ADD/ADHD and related school problems, substance abuse and addictions.

 

  • When poor grades and dropping out are not effectively treated, children become more vulnerable and less resilient as they approach adulthood.

 

  • Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among 10-24 year olds (24% of all deaths).
